Flyers’ Porter Martone commits to Michigan State

Another top player is leaving the CHL.
Porter Martone, who was picked sixth overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in June’s NHL Draft, is heading to Michigan State, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Monday.
Martone, 18, was the captain of the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads last season. He racked up 98 points (37 goals, 61 assists) in 57 regular-season games before adding nine points (four goals, five assists) in six playoff contests.
The Peterborough, Ont., native also competed for Canada at the world juniors and world championships this year.
Now, he’ll relocate south of the border to East Lansing, Mich. — the latest CHL star to make the move to NCAA after a rules change made junior hockey players eligible to compete in U.S. college sports.
Earlier in July, projected 2026 No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna announced he would play next season at Penn State.
