New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) on XTaking the mound in Queens! Matthew Schaefer is set to throw the first pitch at tonight’s @Mets game! ⚾️
Schaefer was supposed to receive this honor during development camp, but a rainout put an end to that possibility.
Schaefer hints that he'll be throwing out the first pitch tonight at the Mets game.
Told him if he bounces it, he has to go back to juniors. I don't make the rules.
"Well, I'm just gonna throw it as high as I can then. I'm going to throw it super high."#Isles— Stefen Rosner (@stefen_rosner) July 1, 2025
Schaefer has his eyes set on making the Islanders roster out of training camp, and he'll be given that opportunity.
The Islanders community has embraced this kid from the get-go, as they should, and as many know, there are a ton of Islanders fans who are also Mets fans.
So this crossover event on the diamond will be a cool experience for them, and for Schaefer, who always seems to rise to the occasion.
Just remember what happens if he throws it high...
Firt pitch is scheduled for 7:10 ET so you should be in your seats by 6:45 to be safe.
