An MVP candidate appears to be headed for another significant absence.

Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov will undergo surgery for a lower-body injury that has plagued him throughout the year and miss at least four weeks, GM Bill Guerin said on Tuesday.

Kaprizov, 27, has played in each of the Wild’s past three games after missing a month with an ailment that lingered longer than the team anticipated.

He had been in discussion with team management the past few days over rehab options and is now set to go under the knife on Friday, The Athletic‘s Michael Russo reported.

Karizov recorded two assists in during his three-game return while playing more than 21 minutes in each of the past two contests.

For the season, Kaprizov leads Minnesota with 52 points (23 goals, 29 assists) despite appearing in just 37 games.

The Wild hit the road to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
