Avalanche claim Jets goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen off waivers

The Colorado Avalanche claimed goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen off waivers Friday.

The Winnipeg Jets placed Kahkonen on waivers in hopes of sending him down to the American Hockey League.

Colorado currently has Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen on the depth chart but both struggled in the team’s season-opening loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. Georgiev was pulled after giving up five goals on 16 shots while Annunen ended up surrendering two goals on just five shots.

Kahkonen joined the Jets on a one-year deal. He recorded a 7-24-3 record with a 3.64 GAA and a .898 save percentage last season with both the San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils.
