Avalanche’s Cale Makar to play vs. Jets

The Colorado Avalanche will have their No. 1 defenceman Cale Makar in the lineup for their divisional matchup with the Winnipeg Jets, the team announced.

Head coach Jared Bednar told reporters earlier in the day that Makar would be a game-time decision for Thursday night’s tilt after the defenceman was a full participant in morning skate.

The three-time NHL All-Star suffered a non-contact injury in the second period of Tuesday’s 6-3 win over the Seattle Kraken. He returned to the ice in the third period but exited after a single shift following a talk with a team trainer.

In his last shift before going to the locker room in the second period, Makar appeared to injure his right leg while turning in the offensive end. He favoured the leg as he skated off the ice.

After the game, Bednar said he didn’t have an update on Makar’s status, offering that the 26-year-old “tweaked something,” per Denver Post‘s Corey Masisak.

The former Norris Trophy winner had two assists in the game, helping Colorado on its way to the win over Seattle.

Makar is in the midst of a 13-game season-opening points streak that has seen him tally five goals and 18 assists. His 23 points are the second in the league, behind only teammate Nathan MacKinnon at 25.
