Avalanche’s Ross Colton to ‘miss some time’ with lower-body injury
Still missing captain Gabriel Landeskog and off to a stuttering 5-5-0 start, the Avalanche also lost their leading goal-scorer Ross Colton on Monday night.
It’s a start to the season that just won’t go right for the Colorado Avalanche.
Still missing captain Gabriel Landeskog and off to a sputtering 5-5-0 start, the Avalanche also lost their leading goal-scorer Ross Colton on Monday night.
Colton was injured in the second period against the Chicago Blackhawks when he blocked a Seth Jones shot off his right foot and appeared to be in significant pain. He later left the arena in a walking boot.
Speaking to reporters after the game, head coach Jared Bednar confirmed that Colton will miss time as he recovers and that the forward is still undergoing evaluation.
“We’ll get a better feel on how much time that’s going to be tomorrow or by Wednesday morning,” Bednar said.
Colton, 28, has been a pleasant surprise amidst a slumping Avalanche squad, scoring eight goals and nine points in the 10 games he’s played.
The centre won a Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021 after scoring the clinching goal in Game 5. He was traded to the Avalanche ahead of the 2023 NHL Draft in exchange for a second-round pick.
In 80 games last season for the Avalanche, Colton had 17 goals and 40 points.
The Blackhawks beat the Avalanche 5-2.
