BJJ is actually based off Judo and not Jujutsu, let me explain.

Judo, as practiced by the Samurai included All of Judo and jujutsu, it wasn't until after the samurai were retired off, that tSport Judo and Jujutsu became 2 separate arts. The Gracie's learned from a Japanese who taught them The original Judo, and they modified It into their own Jujutsu.
