Utah Hockey Club used Friday’s trade deadline to clear some cap space for next season.

Utah shipped the contract of Hall-of-Fame defenceman Shea Weber, the rights to defenceman Victor Soderstrom and forward Aku Raty to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick.

The move takes $7.8 million off Utah’s books for next season.

Weber was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2024. He last played with the Montreal Canadiens in the 2020-21 season, but was forced to step away from the ice due to the toll injuries took on his body.

His contract has since been traded three times and expires at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Soderstrom, meanwhile, returned to Brynäs IF of the Swedish Hockey League this season after being selected 11th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2019. He played just 53 NHL games. In 47 games this season, he has nine goals and 27 assists.

Raty, a fifth-round pick by the Coyotes in 2019, has spent the entire 2024-25 season with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners. He has 19 points through 50 games.

The 23-year-old made his NHL debut with Arizona last April, picking up an assist in 11:45 of ice time.
