The St. Louis Blues got an unexpected boost as they continue their chase for a playoff spot.

Star defenceman Colton Parayko returned to the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Seattle Kraken for the first time since March 5.

Parayko injured his left knee in a game against the Los Angeles Kings.

He underwent a scope on the injured knee and was originally expected to miss the remainder of the regular season, but instead returns with two games remaining.

Before his injury, Parayko, 31, played more ice time than anyone else on the Blues, averaging nearly 24 minutes over 62 games and recording 35 points.

His return is perfect timing for the Blues as they are in a three-team race for the final two playoff spots in the West.

St. Louis entered Saturday’s action tied with the Minnesota Wild for the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference with 93 points.

But the Calgary Flames are lurking just behind both teams with 90 points and one game in hand.
