Canadiens beat Senators, leap into playoff spot

The Montreal Canadiens notched another huge win on Tuesday.

Captain Nick Suzuki scored a power-play goal with 4:37 left to break a 3-3 tie as the Canadiens beat the visiting Ottawa Senators 6-3.

With the win, the Canadiens moved one point ahead of the New York Rangers for the second and final wild-card spot.

The result ended Ottawa’s win streak at six games. Ottawa still holds the Eastern Conference’s first wild-card spot.

Suzuki has been on a tear since the 4 Nations Face-Off ended. He’s tied for the NHL lead with 18 points during that time period.

Josh Anderson and Brendan Gallagher sealed the Montreal win with empty-netters.

Christian Dvorak, Lane Hutson and Anderson scored earlier in the game for the Canadiens, while Drake Batherson, Michael Amadio and Travis Hamonic replied for the Senators.
