The Montreal Canadiens have signed the forward to a four-year extension with an average annual salary of $2.85 million, the team announced on Tuesday.
Evans has recorded 28 points (12 goals and 16 assists) in 61 games with the Canadiens this season. The 28-year-old centre ranks second among NHL forwards in shorthanded ice time and holds a share for third in the league with three goals while killing penalties.
The 28-year-old from Toronto was drafted in the seventh round, 207th overall, by Montreal in 2014.
He’s registered 120 points (39 goals and 81 assists) in 329 career games with the Canadiens over six seasons.
Evans was in the final season of a three-year contract and was slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
The Canadiens return to action on Thursday as they visit the Oilers in Edmonton.
