Canadiens’ Guhle suffers lower-body injury vs. Jets after awkward fall

Kaiden Guhle‘s night came to an unfortunate end on Tuesday.

The Montreal Canadiens young defenceman was forced to exit Tuesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets in the third period after falling awkwardly into the boards.

After the game, the team said Guhle suffered a lower-body injury and will need further evaluation.

The injury occurred when Guhle pinched into the corner in the offensive zone, where he appeared to catch an edge and then slammed his right heel into the boards. The 23-year-old blueliner seemed to be favouring his right leg as he skated off the ice and into the team’s locker room.

Guhle had four hits in 18:29 of ice time before being forced to leave.

The Edmonton native entered Tuesday’s game with four goals and 10 assists in 43 games for the Canadiens this season.

Guhle signed a six-year, $33.3 million contract extension with Montreal in July.
