Canucks make defenceman Carson Soucy available for a trade
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Canucks are now looking to move veteran defenceman Carson Soucy after just a season and a half with the club.
The Vancouver Canucks may have only been getting started with their two trades last week.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Canucks are now looking to move defenceman Carson Soucy after just a season and a half with the club.
On Sunday, the 30-year-old was held out against the Detroit Red Wings as newly acquired Marcus Pettersson slotted in.
“I think Vancouver has made Carson Soucy available,” said Friedman during a radio appearance Tuesday on Sportsnet’s The FAN Hockey Show.
“He got scratched the other night, and I think they’ve let people know he’d be available. They’re just remodelling their D right now. He’s had a tough year, but I really like Soucy as a player. I thought he was a really good player for them last year in the playoffs (and he) had a real presence.
“We’ll see where that goes, but I’ve heard they’ve made him available.”

The Fan Hockey Show
Sportsnet’s Matt Marchese and former Los Angeles Kings executive Mike Futa take you around the league on Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s national hockey show, airing live across the country daily from noon-2 p.m. ET.
Signed by the Canucks in the 2023 off-season, Soucy missed 42 games last season due to injuries, posting two goals and four assists in 40 games before adding a goal and four assists in 12 playoff games.
He has two goals and six assists over 51 games this season and is a minus-15.
While the Irma, Alta., native has a full no-trade clause this year on his three-year, $9.75-million deal, Friedman doesn’t believe it will prevent the Canucks from finding him a new home.
“Well, I think the thing is, in situations like this, it’s probably something that the player is aware of, and what it says to me is that the way they looked the other night, there’s probably not a lot of room for him,” Friedman said. “And in situations like that, you’re probably willing to work with the team and the player to see if there’s something better out there for him. What it says to me is that their overall vision is that he’s gonna get squeezed a bit here.”
The Canucks next play Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche at 7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. ET on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet+.
