The Vancouver Canucks made a pair of moves to their blueline ahead of Sunday’s game against the Nashville Predators.
Defenceman Derek Forbort, who left practice early on Nov. 4 while favouring his right leg, was placed on the injured reserve. The 32-year-old defenceman had just returned from a personal absence before suffering the lower-body injury.
In four games this season, the 10-year NHL veteran has one assist, five blocked shots and a minus-1 rating.
To fill Forbort’s spot on the roster, Vancouver recalled defenceman — yes, defenceman — Elias Pettersson from AHL Abbotsford, who will make his NHL debut against Nashville.
The 20-year-old Pettersson shares a name and home country with Canucks star forward Elias Pettersson but is unrelated. The six-foot-three defenceman was a third-round pick by Vancouver in 2022.
A left-handed shot, Pettersson has skated in 15 games with Abbotsford this season, collecting four assists and a plus-3 rating.
