In one of the more surprising non-moves of trade deadline day, Brock Boeser wasn’t dealt by the Vancouver Canucks.
A day later, we now know why.
The Canucks insisted on a first-round pick in exchange for their longtime sniper, but never received such an offer, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on the Saturday Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada.
The revelation helps explains general manager Patrik Allvin’s response during his Friday press conference when asked why Boeser was still with the team.
“If I told you what I was offered for Brock Boeser, I think I would have to run out of here because you would not believe me,” Allvin told reporters at Rogers Arena.

And so Boeser, 28, stays in Vancouver.
The Burnsville, Minn., native has 18 goals in 55 games on the season — well off the pace from his career-high 40-goal campaign a year ago.
Of course, he’s not the only Canuck who’s struggled this year.
Elias Pettersson, who reportedly feuded with ex-teammate J.T. Miller, snapped a 15-game goal slump on Friday.
Miller, of course, was dealt to the New York Rangers in January, the first domino in a series of moves that reshaped the Canucks roster.
Vancouver, which won the Pacific Division last season, currently occupies the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with 69 points in 62 games.
