Martin Fehervary was ruled out for the season after undergoing knee surgery, the team announced on Tuesday.
The procedure was intended to repair his right meniscus.
Fehervary, 25, was injured on April 15 when he appeared to turn his ankle in a win over the New York Islanders and did not appear in Game 1 for Washington against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.
Over 81 games, the Slovakian tallied five goals and 20 assists while averaging 19 minutes per contest.
Alex Alexeyev filled in for Fehervary on the third pairing alongside Trevor van Riemsdyk in Game 1.
