Washington signed fourth-line forward Nic Dowd to a two-year, $6-million contract extension on Wednesday, the team announced.
Dowd, 34, recorded a career high 27 points (14 goals and 13 assists) in 81 games for the East-leading Capitals this season.
The Huntsville, Ala., native is in his 11th NHL season and his seventh with the Capitals.
In 581 career NHL games with the Capitals, Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings, Dowd has 84 goals and 92 assists.
