Chiefs believe they dodged a bullet on Patrick Mahomes, for now

The Chiefs are optimistic about quarterback Patrick Mahomes. For now.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Chiefs currently believed they dodged a bullet with Mahomes's high-ankle sprain. However, the team is concerned about the extent of the swelling on Monday morning.

Mahomes could have continued playing today, we're told, if the game had been tight. But the X-rays were negative, and the Chiefs hope the ankle won't swell like a balloon tomorrow morning.

He suffered the injury in the fourth quarter. He was replaced by Carson Wentz.

The Chiefs face the Texans on Saturday, and the Steelers the following Monday.
