Commanders start fast, survive to win 20-19 on Saints' failed two-point conversion

What looked like an easy win became a nail biter, but the Commanders managed to win all the same.

Washington went into New Orleans and jumped out to a 17-0 lead over the Saints, but New Orleans stormed back with a touchdown that pulled it to within one point as time expired. The Saints failed on their two-point conversion attempt, however, and the Commanders won 20-19.

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels played very well early on, throwing two first-half touchdown passes to Terry McLaurin. But when the Commanders' offense had a chance to put the game away late, it failed to do so, and a missed field goal kept the Saints' hopes alive.

The Saints started Jake Haener at quarterback, but he was benched in favor of Spencer Rattler at halftime. Rattler played well, even though New Orleans lost Alvin Kamara to an injury, and threw a touchdown pass as time expired. Unfortunately for New Orleans' Rattler's two-point conversion pass fell incomplete.

The win improves the Commanders' record to 9-5 and clinches a winning record, in what has been a great rookie season for Daniels. The loss drops the Saints to 5-9, and although they're mathematically still alive, their playoff hopes are just about over.
