Derek Cleary scores 10-9 Stipe in Round 2
Many fans are calling Derek crazy but he is a damn GOOD judge considering how many fights he’s judged in his career and the low percentage of split decision dissents he has in his record. I rewatched Round 2 and this is what I got: 1) Immediate Impact strikes - 1.1) Immediate Impact strikes by Stipe: early stiff jab (shock); right uppercut (diminishing of confidence); right cross (visible distress). 1.2) Immediate Impact strikes by Jones: stiff jab (visible distress); 2nd frontal kick to the body (visible pain); inside leg kick (stance compromised). 3 x 3 (draw). —————————- 2) Cumulative Impact strikes 2.1) Cumulative Impact strikes by Stipe: left hook to the body during blitz; jab to the body; left hook to the body during blitz; inside calf kick; inside leg kick; left hook during blitz (blocked by Jones, but noticeable result/momentum). 2.2) Cumulative Impact strikes by Jones: 1st frontal kick to the body (no visible distress despite connecting); left cross to the body; right knee to the body during clinch (no visible results); oblique kick; jab to the body; left high kick (connects to the neck, no visible results); jab; inside leg kick; 3rd frontal kick to the body (no visible results); short left hook (connects, but no visible results, Stipe evades a jab right after). 10 for Jones x 6 for Stipe. —————————— This was based exclusively on ABC’s Official Judging Criteria from Aug 2nd 2016, which is the current rule, added to the Unified Rules of MMA. ————————— Final score: The immediate impact inflicted by both parties was even, but Jones did more cumulative impact. Also, many Stipe’s strikes were light. The Round’s biggest strike was Jones 2nd frontal kick to the body, but Stipe landed more clean shots to the head. So my take is 10-9 Jones in a competitive round. For me, it isn’t shocking to see a judge giving it to Stipe. Do you agree with Derek Cleary? submitted by /u/ComprehensiveRope160 [link] [comments]
