Devils activate G Jacob Markstrom from injured reserve after month-long absence

The New Jersey Devils are set for a big boost between the pipes as they continue on their road trip.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been activated from injured reserve after missing more than a month with an MCL sprain and will return to action as the Devils take on the Vegas Golden Knights, head coach Sheldon Keefe announced Sunday.

“He’ll play tonight, he’s ready to go,” Keefe told reporters.

Markstrom suffered the injury against the Boston Bruins on Jan. 22, with the initial recovery time pegged at four to six weeks. He returned to practice on Feb. 19 and has slowly built back up to becoming a full participant.

The 35-year-old joined the Devils in the off-season and has posted a 21-9-5 record with a .912 save percentage and 2.20 goals-against average over 36 outings. He has three shutouts to his name so far this season.

He previously spent the last four seasons with the Calgary Flames, earning a .907 save percentage and 2.63 GAA over 212 games.

In a corresponding move, the Devils assigned 24-year-old goaltender Nico Daws to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.

New Jersey is currently third in the Metropolitan division with a 33-22-6 record, but is 5-5 in its last 10 games.

Watch Markstrom return to action against the Golden Knights, with puck drop at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet+.
