The New Jersey Devils might be dealing with even more bad luck.

Defenceman Dougie Hamilton left Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Stars late in the first period and he did not return.

The 31-year-old appeared to suffer a lower-body injury at the end of the period after colliding with Stars forward Mason Marchment behind the Devils’ net. He was able to leave the ice on his own, though appeared to be limping.

He remained on the bench for the remainder of the first but did not come out for the middle frame.

The Toronto native has played all 62 games for the Devils so far this season, notching nine goals and 40 points while averaging 20:02 time on ice.

This comes as more bad news for a Devils team that has been struck by injuries this season. On Sunday, No. 1 centre Jack Hughes suffered an upper-body injury that could keep him out long-term, though he is still undergoing further testing.

The team is also without defenceman Jonas Siegenthaler, who remains on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury.
