Ducks first-rounder Beckett Sennecke out six-to-eight weeks

Beckett Sennecke‘s NHL career is off to an unfortunate start.

The Anaheim Ducks‘ No. 3 overall selection in the 2024 NHL Draft will be out for approximately six to eight weeks with a foot fracture he suffered in off-season training, the team announced Thursday.

Anaheim’s rookie camp is scheduled to open on Sept. 12. The Ducks’ first pre-season game is on Sept. 24, while their regular-season opener is on Oct. 12 against the San Jose Sharks.

The Ducks shocked the rest of the league when they selected the 18-year-old Sennecke No. 3 overall in June. Even Sennecke appeared to be in disbelief when the selection was made.

“It’s obviously super emotional, I don’t think I expected that,” Sennecke said following his selection. “I think my agent knew more than me, but he didn’t tell me. Obviously, I’m super happy to be a part of this organization.

Sennecke scored 27 goals and 68 points in 63 games with the OHL’s Oshawa Generals last season.

On July 5, the Ducks announced that they signed Sennecke to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The Ducks also announced Thursday that goaltender Tomas Suchanek had undergone successful surgery for a ruptured ACL and will be out for six to eight months. Suchanek, 21, started 29 games in the AHL last season and had a 2.92 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.
