The Anaheim Ducks will be without forward Trevor Zegras for the next three games.
Zegras was suspended three games by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for delivering a hit to the head on Michael Rasmussen of the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
The incident occurred with 2:41 remaining in the second period during Anaheim’s 5-4 overtime loss Sunday.
Zegras appeared to catch an unsuspecting Rasmussen in the head in the neutral zone.
Rasmussen, who scored his ninth goal of the season earlier in the period, did not return to the game. No penalty was called.
Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan told reporters Monday that Rasmussen is day-to-day and will be unavailable for Tuesday’s road game against the Minnesota Wild.
Detroit was leading 4-2 at the time of the incident. Anaheim came back to tie it with two goals in the third period. Patrick Kane scored the winner for the Red Wings with a minute remaining in OT.
