Flames bounce back with win over Rangers

After a lopsided 6-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, the Calgary Flames bounced back in a major way 24 hours later.

The Flames pulled off a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in the second game of a four-game road trip.

Calgary fell down early after Rangers forward Artemi Panarin scored his 30th of the season just over a minute into the first period.

But the Flames rallied quickly, as Nazem Kadri and Matt Coronato would answer later in the period to give the visitors a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Igor Shesterkin did his best to keep the Rangers in the game, making a number of key stops to keep New York within striking distance.

It’s a big two points for the Flames who are in the thick of a tight race for the Western Conference’s final wild-card spot.

With the win, the Flames pulled even with the Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues for the West’s final post-season berth with 73 points. Both the Canucks and Blues are also in action Tuesday.
