Flames’ Connor Zary exits vs. Stars after awkward collision

It was a few scary moments at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday.

Calgary Flames centre Connor Zary went down in the third period after an awkward collision with Dallas Stars winger Mikko Rantanen and did not return to the game.

Rantanen lost an edge mid-way through the third and slid into Zary along the boards. Zary’s knee appeared to get stuck, bending at an awkward angle as he fell.

The 23-year-old was in visible pain while clutching his left knee. He remained down on the ice as training staff tended to him before teammates helped him off the ice.

Especially concerning for the Flames is that Zary suffered a long-term injury to his knee in January, which caused him to miss nearly a month.

The Saskatoon native has 13 goals and 26 points in 53 games this season.
