Flames’ Connor Zary, Kevin Bahl back at practice
The Calgary Flames got some good news in their first practice back after the 4 Nations Face-Off break. Forward Connor Zary and defenceman Kevin Bahl were on the ice at Tuesday’s practice in Calgary after both missed time prior to the break with injuries.

Forward Connor Zary and defenceman Kevin Bahl were on the ice at Tuesday’s practice in Calgary after both missed time prior to the break with injuries.
Zary, 23, missed the team’s last 15 games with a knee injury he suffered in a Jan. 7 game against the Anaheim Ducks. The Flames forward collided with Ducks defenceman Drew Helleson and immediately hit the ice in pain. Helleson was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct after the play.
Before the injury, Zary was tied for fourth in Flames points with 10 goals and 12 assists in 40 games. He was selected by the Flames in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft, and had 14 goals and 20 assists in 63 games last season.
Meanwhile, Bahl missed the team’s last eight games with an upper-body injury. The Flames defenceman was injured when Minnesota Wild forward Jakub Lauko hit him from behind, sending the Calgary defenceman head first into the boards.

Lauko received a two-minute minor for boarding after a review from officials. Flames head coach Ryan Huska was visibly frustrated with the decision after the call was confirmed.
Bahl has emerged as an important member of the Flames blue line in his first season with the team. The six-foot-six D-man had two goals, 14 points, a plus-1 rating and 77 blocked shots through 46 games.
If Zary and Bahl are able to play out of the 4 Nations break, it could be a huge boost to a Flames team that sits three points behind the Vancouver Canucks for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
Calgary’s first game back will be on Sunday when they host the lowly San Jose Sharks.
