The Calgary Flames held off a third-period comeback from the Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin to open their six-game road trip with a 3-1 win.

The Calgary Flames held off a third-period comeback from the Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin to open their six-game road trip with a 3-1 win.
It is Washington’s first regulation loss at home since Nov. 23.
Calgary got two goals in the game’s opening period, with Martin Pospisil burying his fourth of the season and Matt Coronato collecting his 15th snipe.
Pospisil’s goal drew a reaction from the Capitals on the ice, as the Flames forward appeared to put the puck in the back of the net with a kick. But the officials deemed the play to be a good goal.
Ovechkin moved one marker closer to Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record with his 30th goal of the year in the third period.
It extended his record to 19 seasons of having reached the 30-goal threshold.
More to come.
