Carter King will begin his professional career at home.

The Calgary Flames signed the Calgary-born forward to a one-year, two-way deal worth $872,500, the NHL team announced Monday.

The five-foot-11 King is coming off four-plus seasons with the University of Denver, including national championships in 2022 and ’24, and a Frozen Four appearance this season.

The 23-year-old forward posted career-best numbers this season as team captain (21 goals and 22 assists for 43 points in 44 games).

If he doesn’t make the Flames roster, King likely will play in the AHL with the Calgary Wranglers.
