Garrett Wilson: It feels like we have a losing gene

The Jets will miss the playoffs for the 14th straight season and wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been on hand for the last three of them.
After Sunday's 32-26 overtime loss in Miami, Wilson said he would have been shocked before the season to learn that the Jets would be 3-10 and out of hope at this point in the year. He said he's learned that "winning in training camp is winning in training camp" and that the team has to figure out how to win when it matters.
That's been a major issue for the Jets this year. They've had six opportunities to win games in the fourth quarter this year and they've lost all six of them while also losing three straight games that they led in the fourth quarter, which left Wilson feeling like there's something in the team's DNA that keeps putting them on the losing end of final scores.
“When you’re up in the fourth quarter all of a sudden it starts to feel like we have a losing problem, like a gene or some shit,” Wilson said, via Zack Rosenblatt of TheAthletic.com. “It’s not like we’re going out there and getting our butt beat from start to finish. No, we have a chance to win the game, we’re supposed to win the game, odds are in our favor and we find a way to lose.”
This is Wilson's third season, so the coming months will bring conversations about contract extensions and his desire to remain with the Jets for the long term. The team's forthcoming coach and General Manager hires will play a role in any discussions and so will whether Wilson thinks there's a way to fully cure the genetic disorder that has relegated to the Jets to the dustbin year after year.
