Goalie Yaroslav Askarov to make Sharks debut against Blues
The San Jose Sharks have confirmed goaltender Yaroslav Askarov will make his debut with the team Thursday night against the St. Louis Blues.
Goaltender Yaroslav Askarov is set for his San Jose Sharks debut Thursday night against the St. Louis Blues, the team confirmed.
Askarov was acquired from the Nashville Predators in August.
The 22-year-old from Omsk, Russia, was drafted in the first round, 11th overall, by the Predators in 2020. He played only three games over two seasons with Nashville and recorded a 1-1-0 record, 2.57 goals against average and .914 save percentage.
After Askarov was traded to the Sharks, he was sent to the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL, where he posted a 6-3-0 record, 1.92 GAA and .939 save percentage over nine games.
Asakarov was recalled from the Barracuda on Monday.
The Sharks have split their starts between Mackenzie Blackwood and Vitek Vanecek this season. Vanecek left Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins with an injury and did not return.
