Reilly Smith is heading back to Las Vegas.

The New York Rangers traded the veteran forward to the Vegas Golden Knights for forward Brendan Brisson and a 2025 third-round pick on Thursday, Sportsnet can confirm.

The Rangers have been busy ahead of the trade deadline. On Saturday, they traded defenceman Ryan Lindgren and winger Jimmy Vesey to the Colorado Avalanche for a second- and fourth-round pick, young forward Juuso Parssinen and veteran defenceman Calvin de Haan.

Smith, a veteran of 14 NHL seasons, held out of Sunday’s game against the Nashville Predators for roster management reasons. He was traded to New York by the Pittsburgh Penguins last summer and is set to become a UFA at the end of the year.

The 33-year-old has 10 goals, 29 points and a minus-1 rating while averaging 15:36 of ice time over 58 games with the Rangers in 2024-25.

Since making his NHL debut in 2011-12, Smith has played with the Rangers, Penguins, Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers and Vegas Golden Knights.

His career-best season came in 2019-20 with Vegas, when he scored 27 goals and totalled 54 points.

Brisson, 23, appeared in nine games for the Golden Knights this season and has yet to register a point.
