The move comes after Lemieux cleared waivers.
Lemieux signed a one-year deal with the Hurricanes in July 2023 and re-signed for another season in March.
The 28-year-old had three goals and two assists in 32 games with the Hurricanes last season but has spent this season with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, registering two goals in 12 games.
Lemieux was drafted in the second round, 31st overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in 2014 and has 74 points (36 goals and 38 assists) and 548 penalty minutes in 307 career games with the Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers and Hurricanes.
He is the son of four-time Stanley Cup champion Claude Lemieux.
