The team recalled goalie Spencer Martin on Tuesday as starter Frederik Andersen deals with an undisclosed injury suffered midway through Game 4 after a collision with Devils forward Timo Meier that forced him to exit the game.
Andersen was absent at the Hurricanes’ morning skate on Tuesday ahead of Game 5. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour told reporters after the skate that Andersen will not play and is considered day-to-day, according to team reporter Walt Ruff.
Pyotr Kochetkov will get the start in net for Carolina.
Kochetkov, who replaced Andersen in Game 4 and stopped 14 of 15 shots, started 47 games this season, winning 27 with a 2.60 goals-against average and a .897 save percentage.
The 35-year-old Andersen missed most of the regular season after undergoing knee surgery in November. He played in just 22 games while sporting a 2.50 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage, but has been stellar this post-season.
Including his shortened Game 4 performance, Andersen owns a playoff-best .936 save percentage and 1.59 goals-against average en route to helping the Canes to a 3-1 series lead over New Jersey.
Martin, 29, appeared in only nine games for Carolina in 2025, posting a 3.89 goals-against average and a .846 save percentage.
