Despite his departure from the organization, Jakob Pelletier‘s story and deep connection to the Calgary Flames was made clear in his parting message on Friday.

In an Instagram post on Friday thanking fans, teammates, the city and the organization following his departure, Pelletier took some extra time to thank the late Chris Snow, whom he called his “forever friend.”

“On this special day, my thoughts are with my forever friend Chris Snow who gave me the chance to represent the Flames,” Pelletier said in the post.

Snow, who passed away on Sep. 30, 2023, due to complications with ALS, was the assistant general manager of the Flames when Pelletier was selected 26th overall in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft.

According to Sportsnet’s Eric Francis, Snow played a big role in pushing for the Flames to select Pelletier.

“He knew going into that draft that Jakob was the guy that he wanted, and he fought for him in those meetings,” Snow’s wife Kelsie said back in January of 2024. “Chris was never afraid of small players, he loved them, probably to (then-GM) Brad (Treliving’s) frustration.”

Pelletier was dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night along with forward Andrei Kuzmenko for forwards Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee.

The 23-year-old had been a steady contributor for the Flames this season, tallying four goals and seven assists through 24 appearances — tied for the most in his three-year NHL career.
