James Cabal (714) gets his very first win in the Mezz LA 9 Ball Series, defeating young 13 year-old Jacob Ventura (461) in a very exciting Stop #3 final! James went undefeated 7 rounds straight, pocketing a cool $1,000 and 150 points on the Leaderboard. The story of the tournament was definitely surrounding the young teen Jacob, who made a run on some of the best players in the series and raised questions about his true speed.
Below is James’ record and route to the final. He came into the tournament as a 714, but his Effective Rating in Stage 1 of this tournament was 939!
- (7-0 W) Mark Barba (616)
- (7-1 W) Chaokun Li (591)
- (7-1 W) Joseph Leon (595)
- (8-3 W) Abet Ng (591)
- (8-2 W) Victor Garcia (507)
- (8-5 W) Chris Stawarski (596)
- (8-2 W) Jacob Ventura (461)
Jacob had a great tournament as well. He came into the tournament as a 461, but his Effective Rating was 543!
- Bye
- (5-6 W) Chris Santana (570)
- (0-7 L) Chris Stawarski (596)
- (3-2 W) Jose G Centeno (650)
- (8-3 W) Eduardo Montez (476)
- (5-7 W) Jason Wetherald (664)
- (5-6 W) Ken Chim (584)
- (2-8 L) James Cabal (714)
As I mentioned above, Jacob’s rating came into question all tournament. Jacob played well above his Fargo this tournament (by nearly 100 points), which indicates he played about TWICE as good as he usually does. Although Jacob has a robustness of 343, many of his recent tournaments have not been processed by Fargo yet. Therefore, in future tournaments he will be rated higher. He did have 2 hill-hill matches that could have gone either way, which if he had lost either, would have possibly nullified the conversation about his speed.
