The Winnipeg Jets are reuniting with Kaapo Kahkonen.
Winnipeg claimed the Finnish goaltender off waivers from the Colorado Avalanche, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Tuesday. The team assigned him to the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.
Additionally, Friedman reported that goalie James Reimer and defenceman Riley Stillman were both placed on waivers by the Anaheim Ducks and Carolina Hurricanes, respectively.
Kahkonen started the year with the Jets after signing a one-year, $1-million deal with the team over the off-season. However, he was placed on waivers on Oct. 11 and was picked up by the Avalanche.
He appeared in only one game with Colorado this season, a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 30.
He made two starts with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles, finishing with an 0-2-0 record, 2.57 GAA and a .919 save percentage.
The 28-year-old has six seasons of NHL experience under his belt, making starts for the Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils. He has a career record of 132-49-68 with a 3.34 GAA and a .898 save percentage.
Winnipeg is the hottest team to start this NHL season, with a record-breaking 14-1-0 record. Their goaltender tandem of Connor Hellebuyck and Eric Comrie has helped them to the second-best goals-against (31) mark in the NHL.
