The Winnipeg Jets have secured their spot atop the NHL for the regular season.

With a Washington Capitals loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday, the Jets have clinched their first Presidents’ Trophy in franchise history.

Finishing as the top regular season team in the NHL, the Jets will have home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.

The 52-23-4 Jets clinched the trophy despite losing on Sunday to the Edmonton Oilers, 4-1.

Their first-round opponent is yet to be determined as neither of the Western wild-card spots have been clinched, with the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues currently occupying the first and second spot, respectively.
