Jon Jones exposed how weak the heavyweight division has always been
People don’t want to admit it, but Jon Jones proved the UFC heavyweight division is a joke. He moves up after three years off, takes a guy that Francis barely beat in a snoozefest, and absolutely dismantles him in two minutes without breaking a sweat. And we’re supposed to believe Ngannou was some kind of unstoppable force? Please. The guy throws wild hooks and gasses out after one round. His best win is a decision over Gane where he wrestled like a D2 prospect. Jones took that same guy down like he was nothing. Ngannou left for boxing because he knew Jones would style on him. You think he would’ve walked away if he thought he could actually win that fight? Even the new “hope” of the division, Tom Aspinall, is getting way too much hype. Let’s be real he’s only beaten guys like Marcin Tybura, Sergei Spivac, and an over the hill Blaydes who barely showed up. No real top tier wins. He’s very fast and has a nice clubbing right hand, but calling him the future GOAT? Chill. We haven’t seen him beat anybody worth a damn yet. (Hopefully they schedule Tom v Jon so we can see who he really is) And it’s not like the heavyweight division was ever good. The history of UFC heavyweight champs is a clown show: • Tim Sylvia? Uncoordinated stiff. • Frank Mir? Great jiujitsu, zero chin. • Cain Velasquez? Made of glass, spent more time injured than fighting. • Junior dos Santos? Took one good punch and fell off a cliff. • Brock Lesnar? Literal WWE guy who became champ with 3 fights. • Andrei Arlovski? Still fighting, somehow, 20 years past his prime. • Stipe Miocic? Good run, but let’s not act like beating DC and Overeem makes you an all-time great. Not to mention got dominated by Bones The only reason people hype HW is because knockouts happen fast but skill for skill, it’s the least technical and least deep division in the UFC. The UFC heavyweight division has never been elite. Just big guys with power and no cardio. Jon Jones walks in and instantly becomes the GOAT of the division. That tells you everything you need to know. submitted by /u/Kloonduh [link] [comments]
