Captain Victor Hedman was scratched late despite taking line rushes and warming up with the team ahead of the Lightning’s showdown against the Boston Bruins on Saturday afternoon.
Hedman left Tampa’s last game against the Buffalo Sabres in the first period, after appearing to injure himself behind his team’s net.
He got tangled with Sabres forward Alex Tuch and skated to the bench while shaking out his leg. After briefly speaking with the team’s training staff, he left the bench.
Hedman ultimately did not return, finishing the game with just 2:57 of ice time.
The two-time Stanley Cup winner has 11 goals and 50 points in 59 games for the Lightning this season.
Tampa (37-21-4) is looking to challenge Florida and Toronto for top spot in the Atlantic Division.
