Lightning’s Brayden Point exits game vs. Jets with injury

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point exited Sunday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets with an apparent injury.

The Lightning did not disclose the nature of the injury, but Point appeared to be grabbing at his groin area following his power-play goal eight minutes into the first period.

His final shift in the game came with nine minutes left in the first. He did not return to the team’s bench at the start of the second and the team said he is not expected to return.

Point’s goal was his eighth of the season. He also has five assists for 13 points in 11 games playing on the Lightning’s highly-productive first line.

The 28-year-old had the second-most points for Tampa Bay last season, finishing with 46 goals and 44 assists for 90 points — the third-highest point tally of his nine-year career.

Tampa Bay is currently 7-4-0 and is second in the Atlantic Division, behind only the Florida Panthers.
