Canada’s No. 1 defenceman is back.

Cale Makar will return to the lineup against Finland on Monday after a one-game absence due to illness.

Makar, 26, will be back on the top pair alongside Colorado Avalanche teammate Devon Toews. He had two shots and led Canada with 28:06 of ice time in the opening 4-3 overtime victory over Sweden.

Thomas Harley will not dress after playing in Makar’s spot against the U.S.

With Canada looking to get its offence going the team decided to change the lineup with Mark Stone and Brayden Point joining Connor McDavid on the top line.

Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon get a new linemate, with Sam Reinhart joining them on the right side on the second line.

Mitch Marner is being bumped to the third line to play with Anthony Cirelli and Brandon Hagel. The fourth line remains mostly the same with Travis Konecny taking Seth Jarvis’s spot alongside Brad Marchand and Sam Bennett.

With Makar out of the lineup against the Americans, Canada struggled to produce offensively and managed just one goal in the loss.

The 2022 Norris Trophy winner was one of few Canadians who took part in an optional practice on Sunday.
