Maple Leafs activate forward Calle Jarnkrok for season debut

Four days ahead of the NHL trade deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs have made an addition.

Forward Calle Jarnkrok was activated off injured reserved on Monday, paving the way for his season debut against the San Jose Sharks later that night.

Jarnkrok, 33, missed the first 60 games of the season after undergoing sports hernia and groin surgery.

The Swede skated in 52 games with Toronto last season, compiling 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists). He is in the third season of a four-year, $8.4-million contract he signed as an unrestricted free agent on July 15, 2022.

During Saturday’s practice, he slotted in at third-line centre in between wingers Bobby McMann and Nick Robertson.

In a corresponding move, the Maple Leafs sent forward Alex Steeves to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
