Maple Leafs’ Chris Tanev day to day with upper-body injury, unlikely to play Friday
Toronto Maple Leafs fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

Toronto Maple Leafs fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
Chris Tanev, after suffering an upper-body injury Tuesday against the Boston Bruins, has been listed as day-to-day, head coach Craig Berube told reporters after practice on Wednesday.
However, Berube added that the defenceman is unlikely to suit up for Friday’s game against the New York Rangers.
Tanev exited Tuesday’s game in the first period after a hit from Bruins centre John Beecher along the boards. After the game, he was seen leaving the arena with his right arm in a sling.

The 35-year-old has been a key piece along Toronto’s blue line this season, tallying two goals and 15 assists across 57 games for the Atlantic-leading Maple Leafs.
In addition to Tanev, Berube provided updates to William Nylander and Max Pacioretty, as both are possibilities to play Friday in New York.
Nylander, after also exiting the game against the Bruins early with what appeared to be a wrist injury, is apparently only dealing with a minor issue. He did not take the ice for overtime in the 5-4 win and was seen grabbing at his wrist on the bench during the extra period.
For the season, Nylander now has 33 goals and 58 points over 58 games for the Maple Leafs.
Pacioretty, meanwhile, joined the team’s practice on Wednesday after suffering an injury at practice last week.
The 36-year-old has been limited to 37 games this season due to injuries and has five goals and eight assists.
The Maple Leafs return to action on Friday as they visit Madison Square Garden to face the Rangers at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet Ontario and Sportsnet+.
