Maple Leafs’ Joseph Woll, John Tavares return to ice; Nylander misses practice

It appears the Toronto Maple Leafs won’t be without their former captain for too long.

John Tavares, who missed Saturday’s game and Monday’s practice with an illness, returned to the ice Tuesday and skated in his usual spot as the team’s second-line centre.

The 34-year-old suited up in the team’s first two games, scoring once in his six shots on goal.

Goaltender Joseph Woll also returned to the ice to put in some work on his own before team practice began but did not participate with the rest of the group. Anthony Stolarz and rookie Dennis Hildeby were the two netminders during team practice.

Woll, 26, was placed on injured reserve last Wednesday with a lower-body injury. Leafs head coach Craig Berube said on Monday that he hopes Woll will be able to join the the team at practice soon.

Absent from practice was forward William Nylander who did not skate due to illness, the team announced Tuesday.

The 28-year-old has suited up in all three of Toronto’s games this season and has two goals in that time.
