Matthew Knies‘ night ended earlier than anticipated.
The Toronto Maple Leafs left winger exited a home tilt against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday after a hard spill in the second period and did not return.
He was later ruled out by the team with an upper-body injury.
With less than three minutes to go in the second frame and the Leafs trailing 3-0, Knies appeared to go in for a hit on Blue Jackets winger Kirill Marchenko but ended up getting the worst of it. The 22-year-old seemed to get tangled up during the collision and landed awkwardly.
Knies did not return for the third. Nick Robertson got bumped up into his spot on the top line.
The former second-rounder in 2021 has logged 31 points in 2024-25 (18 goals, 13 assists) through 46 appearances. He’s yet to miss a game for Toronto this season.
Knies just had his second-most productive night of the season on Monday, racking up two goals and an assist in a 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
He left Wednesday’s game after 13:41 of ice time with one shot and three hits.
