The first significant round of cuts for the Toronto Maple Leafs have been made.

The team placed forward Nick Abruzzese on waivers to assign him to the Toronto Marlies on Thursday. The Leafs also assigned 20 more players to the team’s AHL camp.

Toronto sent forwards Matthew Barbolini, Jacob Frasca, Mathieu Gosselin, Braeden Kressler, Brandon Lisowsky, Robert Mastrosimone, Marko Sikic, Zach Solow, Sam Stevens, and Ty Voit defencemen Matt Anderson, Jacob Bengtsson, Ryan McCleary, Tommy Miller, Rhett Parsons, Chas Sharpe, William Villeneuve along with
goaltenders Jon Gillies, Dennis Hildeby and Vyacheslav Peksa.

Among the players remaining with the Leafs are young forwards Easton Cowan and Nikita Grebenkin, who will be in the lineup for the team’s pre-season game against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
