Toronto Maple Leafs veteran winger Ryan Reaves will have a telephone hearing with the Department of Player Safety on Sunday, meaning he can receive a maximum suspension of five games.
The announcement comes the morning after Reaves’ hit to the head on Edmonton Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse. Reaves received a five-minute major and a match penalty on the play.
The physical forward has been suspended three previous times in his career, totalling six missed games, the last coming in 2021.
The Department of Player Safety considers someone a repeat offender for 18 months following the most recent suspension. While Reaves does not fall into that category, his past history may still be considered.
Toronto hosts the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday night.
