McDonald’s temporarily renaming two locations after Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid has achieved many highs in his career so far, but it is safe to say this is a new one for the Edmonton Oilers captain.

After scoring the game-winning goal at the 4 Nations Face-Off for Canada against the U.S., McDonald’s is rewarding him with a rare gift.

The restaurant will be temporarily renaming two locations, one in Edmonton and another in McDavid’s hometown of Newmarket, Ont.

Peter Miller, the franchise owner of the McDonald’s location in Newmarket, said it was really cool to be part of, and that he has never seen anything like this in his decades with McDonald’s.

“At McDavid’s, we’re celebrating more than just a name change; we’re celebrating community pride and the sport that brings us all together,” Miller told Newmarket Today. “Honouring our hometown hero Connor McDavid and our team’s incredible win is a testament to our shared spirit here in Newmarket.”

During last year’s playoffs, the fast food franchise offered to rename an Edmonton restaurant after him if he brought the Stanley Cup home.

While McDavid’s Oilers fell short of that last season, McDonald’s said it is making good on that deal after his overtime-winning goal to give Canada the win in the 4 Nations Face-Off.

This isn’t the first time McDavid and McDonald’s have worked together, as the NHL star currently has a campaign with the restaurant alongside Auston Matthews that includes commercials and a specially named Big Mac-David burger on the menu.

Another bonus for guests visiting the location in Newmarket is a small order of french fries will cost just $0.97 from Friday, Feb 28 until Sunday, March 2, in honour of the hometown hero’s jersey number.
