The NHL suspended New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe on Sunday for eight games for his hit on Dallas Stars defenceman Miro Heiskanen.
The incident occurred during the third period of the Rangers’ 3-1 road win against the Stars on Friday.
Rempe received a five-minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct, marking his fourth ejection in his 22-game career.
Heiskanen, who was hit from behind, was slow to get up.
It was Rempe’s first game with New York since Nov. 25. He was recalled from the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack last Wednesday after the Rangers traded Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken.
The 22-year-old Rempe has zero points and 24 penalty minutes in five games with the Rangers this season while averaging just over six minutes of ice time.
He has now been suspended twice for elbowing in his career. The six-foot-nine forward received a four-game suspension in March 2023 after a hit on Devils defenceman Jonas Siegenthaler.
